REVIEW

PROPOSAL FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF THE COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY - Brad D. Sibbersen

This is a remarkable text. Especially coming from a guy who is trying to be a comics publisher himself. But then, as I explained in my review on his comic strip, Mr.Satanism, this isn't another Frederic Wertham speaking, this is someone who loves comics and thinks the Industry is the worst thing that could have happened to them.
So if you love comics, you will want to read this text, I promise you. With concisive arguments Sibbersen explains why the CBI is slowing the maturing process of the art form down, whereas any other art can develop and explore new grounds a lot less hindered.
I have mixed feelings about the text - I can see, when one considers Sibbersen grew up in the heart of American comic strips, that he has seen a lot of pulp and drew his conclusions, but American comics do have a few gems among them (be it indeed that only few of them are actually Mainstream) and, more important to me, he has no frame of reference to judge all of the comic book industry. The industries in Europe, for one, have produced many classic works of Ninth Art, that his criticism has little to no hold on.
So read it, but be honest to yourself about the comics you like and wether the criticism Sibbersen spouts, applies to them. Then, by both my and Sibbersen's standards, you too are a comics fan.
